34 (Or 35) New Year's Eve Dinners And Counting At The Same Chinese Restaurant

I was shuffling around my apartment the other day, still recovering from a brief but nasty bout of the flu, I made the mistake of saying to my wife, “I should probably work on something.” I was referring to the two articles I’d meant to write before year’s end but still hadn’t gotten around to. She, however, thought I was looking for inspiration. “Why don’t you write about our New Year’s Eve tradition?” she said. It’s funny, I’d never actually thought about immortalizing the tradition in print, perhaps because it’s only tangentially connected to booze. But it was a good idea, and timely, too — if I could get it done before Dec. 31.

Well, it’s New Year’s Eve as I write this, and the article is up and running at Forbes. So before bidding 2025 a well-deserved good riddance, or if you’re already ushering in 2026, why not have a read about my NYE tradition — and the restaurant that looms larger in my legend, for better or worse, than any other?
