A Wheat Whiskey That Comes In Its Own Silo! And A Bourbon That Took Three Master Distillers To Make!

Frey Ranch’s Harvester Series: Second Harvest, complete with silo. Photo by me.

I don’t write up a Whisk(e)y Of The Week for Forbes every week — though heaven knows that’s the intention — but when I do, I come up with some choice bottles. Such as these two recent faves, one from one of the best-known distilleries in Kentucky, the other from a combo farm/distillery in Nevada that you may never have heard of.

I would love Frey Ranch’s Harvester Series: Second Harvest wheat whiskey even if it didn’t come housed in a mini silo … that actually doesn’t feel so mini when you’ve got an apartment full of bottles to contend with. But the silo makes me love it all the more. As for the whiskey, and the very cool distillery that makes it, you can get all the delicious details -> HERE <-.

Heaven Hill is celebrating its 90th anniversary as well as the reopening of its Heaven Hill Springs distillery in Bardstown, KY, which was destroyed by a fire in 1996. I still haven’t cracked open the 90th anniversary whiskey they sent me, but I did write up the bourbon they released to celebrate the distillery’s reopening a few months ago. Heaven Hill Master Distillers Unity is a one-time-only blend featuring whiskeys from three of Heaven Hill’s master distillers, including a bit from the old Bardstown distillery, laid down by the late great Parker Beam himself.
