Six Whiskies Of The Week For The Price Of Two!

I started writing about Whiskies/Whiskeys Of The Week for Forbes in 2022, but over the last three years and change my ostensibly weekly posts have gotten less frequent, to the point where I may have to consider changing the name to Whisk(e)y Of The Month. Actually, I’ll never do that because it admits defeat, and I still go into every year fully intending to write 52 of these suckers by New Year’s Eve.
Anyway, even though I’ve written less frequently, I’m trying to use clever accounting to at least average one whisk(e)y written about per week. How to do this? By turning Whisk(e)y Of The Week into Whisk(e)ys Of The Week. Not by taking multiple unrelated bottles and shoving them together in an article, mind you — that would be cheating according to the unwritten-but-present-in-my-head official Whisk(e)y Of The Week rules. But in the case of my two most recent WOTWs, there are multiple bottles closely related to each other that actually need to be written up.
Take the pair of whiskies from Florentis, a Firenze-based distillery that has improbably been making whisky smack dab in the middle of Italian wine country for the last several years. Same distillate, but finished in very different wine casks, and each one sporting a distinct and very delicious flavor. To write about one and not the other would be telling only half the story! Or how about the new Single Barrel Collection from Four Roses, which debuts three of their ten iconic recipes individually for the first time, in addition to their famed OBSV bottling released every year. You can’t tell the story without going into detail about all four!
So there you have it — two Whisk(e)y Of The Week articles, six bottles written about in, dare I say it, loving detail. Which still leaves me well behind my bottle-a-week pace. But I’m trying. Read all about them! Maybe even go out and buy them! They’re terrific! And so are you for reading this far!
