Wild Turkey Brings The Cheese With Its New Gold Foil Edition

Bruce Russell loves Cheesy Gold Foil so much he blended a liquid homage to it. (Pic courtesy Wild Turkey/Campari)

If you don’t know what Cheesy Gold Foil is, then you just aren’t a bourbon nerd. For those who don’t know, a little primer. From 1985-92, Wild Turkey produced a 12 year old bourbon, much of which was sourced from other distilleries and was considerably older than 12 years. Unappreciated in its time, it’s now considered by many to be the finest whiskey Wild Turkey ever bottled. As for the cheesy gold foil part… that refers to the packaging, which was very, um, shiny. And, yeah, quite frankly, it’s cheesy. But the whiskey is delicious! And if you have a spare $2,000 or so,

Among the biggest Cheesy Gold Foil fans is Wild Turkey’s own Bruce Russell, son of master distiller Eddie Russell and grandson of fellow master distiller and perhaps the most beloved figure in all of Kentucky bourbon, Jimmy Russell. Bruce is WT’s associate master blender, and for the first Wild Turkey project bearing his name alone (he’s done a few collaborations with Eddie and Jimmy), he’s bringing back Cheesy Gold Foil. Sort of. How is it the same? How is it different? Is it any good? All is revealed in my writeup for the fine humans at Forbes! Check it out — link is -> HERE <-.
